BMI - & Something You Need to Know About Fat Cells

Ah, good old BMI.

So when I started this weight loss journey my BMI was at 41.97

That's really bad. Reaaaally bad. To have a normal and healthy BMI it should be 25.00 or less.
A lot of people say that your BMI doesn't really matter, that it's old science and not the most effective way of saying if you are healthy or not.

I completely agree.
But you can't tell me that because BMI isn't completely accurate, that I should ignore the fact that my BMI was over 40... I was obese. I was more than obese.
Terrible.

Now, something you should know about your fat cells:
You are born with a certain amount of fat cells. Let's say 100 (lucky you :P)
When you gain weight your fat cells aren't multiplying, they are swelling. Like a sponge.
Woohoo :(

But what happens when they swell so much that they are about to burst? Because they can't just keep on swelling forever, amiright?
Once your BMI reaches a certain point (Stay tuned, I'll tell you when) your fat cells actually do MULTIPLY... (Fat cells = adipocytes for all you science folk :3)
So now instead of having 100 fat cells, you have 200.

Well when you lose weight what do you think happens? Do you think they all of a sudden come back into 100 cells? No, you have those 200 cells for life.

Drumroll!

The point in BMI where your fat cells divide is... when your BMI hits 29!

When I realised that my fat cells had divided... and divided... and probably divided again... I got scared.
But it made me push even harder! Because I really really never want them to divide again.

I would like to point out my current BMI: 24.9 :) Under 25. I am finally at a normal BMI, not overweight, not obese... NORMAL.

xoxo

  1. First of all I want to say fantastic blog! I had a quick
    question
in which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
    I was curious
to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior
to writing. I've had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out
there. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions
    or hints? Thanks!
